Why not have these programs play across the internet than going to a designated place where programmers will have to dig deep into their pockets? I believe it is not easy for amateur programmers to garner extra money to enter such tournaments. Time, effort and lastly but not least MONEY would be allocated for such events if we will keep on doing these type of tournaments wherein programmers should be physically present. We can have such big tournaments pretty often if we probably would do it this way(using the internet). We can pick up a designated place where the programs can access the internet and play against each other like the way we are doing now. Maybe the local chess club in the city where the programmer resides or wherever the programmers decide fit.By continuing with the present agenda of holding the WCCC in one tournament hall a lot of strong programs like phalanx,LGG2 and a great multitude of others would be unable to participate since the thought of participating in such tournaments should shudder any programmer if he thinks of the financial consequences that may be incurred.
