Take crafty as an example, sure it has a higher rating than the old crafty running on the PPro 200, but not by that much. Most of those programs would do just as well on a P3 as on the multiprocessor machines they are currently using. Oh, and please do remember the "luck" factor...you need look no further than Mchess. It is much better than that.
