Re5->a5 is better, but in your prev. >postigs you have been correct. wK-> a file .... wait... >no!! > >black will check white all the time, no escape and no opportunity to >do a8=Q !! >K.E How about: 69 Rb7 Re8 70 a7 Ra8 71 Kxe4 Kf6 72 Kd5 Kf5 73 Kc6 Ke5 74 Kb6 Rh8 75 Rb8 Rh6+ 76 Kb5 any 77 a8/Q any attempt to check the king with the rook results in the king heading towards the a file and the a pawn queening (after Rb8). So, Re8 looks real bad. 69 Rb7 Re5 70 a7 Ra5 71 Kxe4 Kf6 72 Kd4 Ke6 73 Kc4 Kd6 74 Kb4 Ra1 75 Kb5 Rb1+ 76 Ka4 Rxb7 77 a8/Q and now it would be kqkr, but I am not sure if a win can be forced in that. 69 Rb7 Re6 70 a7 Ra6 71 Kxe4 Kf6 72 Kd5 Kf5 73 Kc5 Ke5 74 Kb5 Ra1 75 Kb6 Kd6 76 Rb8 Rb1+ 77 Ka6 Ra1+ 78 Kb7 Rb1+ 79 Ka8 Rh1 80 Rb2 Kc7 draw. So, the only possibility for white with black playing Re6 would seem to be: 69 Rb7 Re6 70 a7 Ra6 71 Rb6+ Rxb6 72 a8/Q and whether kqkrp can be turned into a win is also beyond me (I doubt it though). KarinsDad :) PS. I did these variations in my head, so if I screwed up, don't shoot me.
