I think that your perception of Fritz and Hiarcs is skewed because of the engine vs. engine matches that you have played on your machine. I also have observed that in my engine vs. engine matches, Hiarcs is better, but in the true test with two separate machines, the programs are very close in strength; indeed, Fritz may even be a little stronger.
