Subject: The decade of PC chess

Author: Ingo Althofer

In 1989/90 M-Chess by Martin Hirsch (in those days he wrote his first name still
Martin) was the first strong commercial PC chess program. After that several
others fololwed in quick order.

And look for the World Championship title winner:

1992 Rebel by Ed Schroeder (in Madrid)

1995 Fritz by Frans Morsch/Mathias Feist (in Hong Kong)

1999 Shredder by Stefan Meyer-Kahlen (in Paderborn)

So, later the 90's may be called the decade of the PC's in computer chess.

Ingo Althofer.

PS: Of course, it was a "big iron" which beat Kasparov in 97.
