Sir,

What would you do if we really did get AI and not only did the computer get an
ELO of 2900 but it was so small and powerful that it replaced human
intelligence?

If we ever get to that stage, God help us. I am certain that this is maybe
1000 years away at best, so we can both rest easy.

Realistically, the motivation for great improvement is the recognition gained
in having the most sophisticated and successful program. These improvements
are wasted on the general public. We have gone from 1400 level USCF which is
about 1250 ELO to 2600 ELO in less than a decade. That is pretty impressive.
The general public plays at a 800 ELO level. The average USCF club player is
about 1400 USCF.

Todays' chess computer programs are marvellous!!
