Note that for Crafty, you don't have to start with 5 pieces, you only have to
_end_ with 5 pieces.  I have seen positions with 16 (or even more) pieces on
the board, with crafty reporting sporadic endgame tablebase hits...  And have
seen positions with 12 pieces on the board where it announced a deep mate as
it found a way to force trading down to 4-5 pieces...
