First, congratulations to Steve for a usefule introduction to using Tablebases. I tried your position of K + 2Ps vs. K + P in Chessbase 7.0 and it worked but with several glitches. After setting up the position, you press Start Engine, then select "TableBases 1.0" You then get a list of moves. Now, after making each move, there is an error message from CB7: "Endgame is not supported." However, ignore the message and just keep making moves, and the Tablebase window will change, showing the fastest way to mate at that point. Most of your article dealt with generating more tablebases for the advanced player with an enormous amount of HD space. But on a more practical level, how would one access the tablebases one copied to the HD? Does one follow the procedure you outlined of setting up the position and manually changing the engine to Tablebase 1.0? Presumably Hiarcs7.32 does this automatically when a tablebase position is reached, though it sounds doubtful to me if it can just change engines on the fly.
