Subject: Arasan vs. Comet - king safety issues

Author: Jon Dart

I don't usually like to post losses, but the following game is an
interesting example of an effective kingside attack by a program
("Masterchess", which is an account running Comet). I have added
a few comments.

Ironically, Arasan's king safety code seems to be part of the
problem here - it is very reluctant to move pawns near the king,
and this probably makes it slower to see threats that involve
a pawn storm (since king safety is symmetrical, it thinks Black
won't damage his own pawn structure). Arasan would not play
..h5, as Comet did in this game, at least not at blitz time controls.

This code also likely contributed to avoiding f4 on move 16.
I clearly have some fixes to make..

Comet may not have found the best move in a couple of cases but
overall its play was very impressive. It is one of the more
aggressive Winboard programs (AnMon seems to be another one).
