It was indeed 40/2 and 1h KO. I found the information at WCCR:
The time controls will be 40 moves in 2 hours each side and an additional hour
for all the remaining moves of that particular game. The play will be 3 games
per week starting Monday April 7, 1997 at 12:00 noon EST.
Games will continue April 10th (3 PM), 12th (12 noon), 14th (12 noon), and the
17th (3 PM) and 19th (12 noon) if necessary. IM Dean Hergott will play on a
board supplied by the Chess Federation of Canada and Hiarcs 6 will play on a
computer supplied for the duration of the match by Computer City. The computer
will be a 200 Mhz Pentium Pro model with 64Mb of RAM. This is the fastest
computer that is compatible with the PC architecture.
