The lines in the Hiarcs fun book may not be ideally suited to the program's style. The first time I beat Hiarcs 7.01 was with the book set to fun. The program played the Dutch Defense, which I haven't yet seen it play with the tournament book. Nevertheless, 2 . . . d6 in Mr. Hall's game is a perfectly reasonable line, not some strange cramped defensive line or unsound gambit. The program should still be able to handle it. I had the 16 bit Hiarcs 6.0 analyze the game overnight within the Nimzo99 interface. I can post the notes if requested, but don't think they are particularly enlightening. The point, though, is that the computer thinks White is just throwing away material, and favors Black up to a point, then suddenly flip-flops. Seems very typical of the type of thinking that has programs mishandling such positions.
