My experience is with the previous version, MCP7, which oddly enough has been placing higher on the SSDF lists than version 8. Yes, like most top programs it is very hard for most people to beat. I recently had to reinstall it when some files on my computer were accidentally erased. Since then, my record is +2 -8 =2. My previous record was probably in the same proportions, but over perhaps a hundred or so games. One thing about version 7 which I hope has been corrected in MCP8. I always try to set a program so that it won't show me its thinking when I am playing it. With MCP7, though, even when you turn "Watch Thinking" off, it still shows some analysis. I have to be careful not to glance at the bottom of the screen! To return to your original point, of course very few people who post here will have winning records against any of the top commercial programs, or the best freeware. Speaking for myself, the only current programs I have winning records against are probably ZChess, Chenard, and possibly Arasan. Maybe also ExChess, but I'm not sure, and I don't have complete records. But I spend much more time playing programs like Crafty, Hiarcs 7.01, Rebel10, Fritz, etc., which can be relied upon to score, I don't know, 80%?, 90%,? 95%?
