A bitboard is a 64-bit integer. There are 64 squares on a chessboard, so you
get one bit per square. This can be a useful data structure in a chess program.

Some chess programs, notably Crafty, make heavy use of bitboards for move
generation, attack detection, and various evaluation function purposes.

Crafty seems to be able to do its common tasks efficiently using these, but
there are methods that are easier to understand and implement.
