Subject: Some thoughts on engine vs. engine matches

There's been a lot of debate on the relevance of engine vs. engine matches
played on the same machine. I'm of the opinion that these matches are
meaningless as far as determining the actual strength of the programs.

If the Green Bay Packers defeated the Denver Broncos in a game of six man
football, would this mean that the Packers were the better team? I think not.
Only by playing at full strength (11 on 11)could this determination be made.

Similarly, the only way to tell the true strength of the programs is to play
them on separate, equally configured machines.
