Subject: Why does Olithink moves pieces in to capture for no reason at all?

Author: Jeff Anderson

I downloaded a freeware program called Olithink a few months ago, but have not
paid much attention to it since then. Today I set it up and began playing it a
few lightning games at g/2. At first it was not unlike other relatively weak
programs. It was good at tactics, but would make horrible positional mistakes.
Still, I was sure that would be plenty to beat me, which it did the first two.

Then, it made an inexplicable blunder that the 5 ply search it made should have
avoided easily.
It beat me another couple of games and then another game IT PASSED UP A SIMPLE
WIN TO INSTEAD MOVE ITS ROOK INTO CAPTURE FOR NO REASON AT ALL ON AN 8 PLY
SEARCH! I played it more games and it made more such completely inexplicable
blunders.

Does anyone have any explanation for this bizarre behaviour from this program?
Has anyone else noticed this when they played Olithink?

Here is the game where it moves its rook into capture for no reason at all after
an 8 ply search. The move is 41.Rh8+?? when 41.Rbh1 wins.
