The current 366Mhz iMac, should run HIARCS 7.0 faster than a PIII/500 (extrapolation from iMac 233, PII/400 - see table at end) HIARCS 7.0 runs on the iMac, G3s, and any other Mac sold in the last four years or so. Those are all "PowerMacs". It runs on the older Macs, too - those pages must be in error. The "PowerMacs" are Macs with a "PowerPC" chip: the "601","603","604" and "G3" chips (the iMac uses the "G3" chip) Prior to that, Macs used "68K" chips - 68040, 68030, 68020, 68000, etc. I think all Macs sold since January 1996 are PowerMacs. The transitional period was from March 1994 to Dec. 1995, when both types were sold - Macs with 3-digit model numbers ( 610,520, etc.) used the older chip, and Macs with 4-digit model numbers (6100,5200, etc.) were PowerMacs. In any event, on the HIARCS 7 CD, there are two versions of HIARCS7.0 - in the "ENGINES" folder of my HIARCS 7 CD (which I have open at the moment) there is: "HIARCS 7.0 (PPC)" [ for PowerMacs ] "HIARCS 7.0 (68K)" [ for older, 680X0 based Macs ] Here's some benchmark data I took, running 2.5 hours of problems per machine: HIARCS 7 - with 64Mb Hash (Mac) or 63Mb Hash (PC) Machine CPU MHz CPU Nodes/second nps/MHz Configuration =================================================================== Mac Yosemite 400 MHz 750 53,413 nps 133.5 Sys 8.5.1, 128Mb RAM, G3 Mac Yosemite 350 MHz 750 47,615 nps 136.0 Sys 8.5.1, 128Mb RAM, G3 Mac PowerBook 300 MHz 750 40,062 nps 133.5 Sys 8.5, 192Mb RAM, G3 Mac ??? 310 MHz 750 38,929 nps 125.6 Sys 8.1, accel. card?
