Converting assembly language into a parallel search is _very_ difficult. I did it with Cray Blitz. Doing it with C is _far_ easier. But the down-side is a serious loss of speed. What might be happening is that Fritz is going 'back to C' again, for reasons related to portability (which is why I have stayed "c")... All speculation of course, plus a rumor or two from the WCCC event...
