This might be because you are using KDE --- KDE has a reputation for being very slow (I haven't tried using it myself, so this is purely based on what I have read elsewhere). Concerning editors, I would very much recommend you to learn to use vim or emacs. To master one of these to editors will take some time, but they are both _extremely_ powerful. If you spend an hour or two learning to use emacs, you will save hundreds of hours in the future (or thousands of hours, depending on how much time you spend using your editor :-). Tord
