Every once in a while, I read crackpot books, knowing they are crackpot books, and hoping to at least get a few laughs along the way. I suspected that Berliner's book might be in that class, although I hoped otherwise. Berliner's book is one of the silliest mixtures of bad analysis and megalomaniacal pronouncements I have ever seen on chess or any other subject. Read the reviews by Watson and Silman on insidechess.com if you still think 25 Yankee dollars isn't too much to pay for the opportunity to debunk the magnum opus of the Immanuel Velikovsky of chess. If I had it to do over again, I would have waited for a used copy to show up somewhere, rather than waste good drinking money on such balderdash.
