When you copy a file from a CD to a hard drive, it still thinks the files are on a non-writable medium (e.g. the CD) and have them marked as "read only". You need to remove this "read-only" file attribute. Use "My Computer" in Windows 95/98 to go to the folder where you copied the files. Hold down the CTRL key and click once on each of the tree files to highlight them. The RIGHT-click on any of the highlighted files. From the menu that appears, select "Properties". You'll see that the "Read-only" attribute box has an X in it. UNselect this box, click "Apply", then click "OK" or "Close" (depending on your flavor of Windows). You should now be able to use tree learning with no problem. BTW -- when you use the "Copy tree to disk" command in the Hiarcs program, Hiarcs automatically removes the read only attribute for you when it copies the files to the hard drive. -- Steve Lopez
