You know what Zachariah, I should have probably mentioned, and I don't know if it has any real berring on what you want to do or not, but one of the most interesting 2D boards that I ever saw was on Eugene Nalimov's Siberian Chess program! You might want to take a look at that, it's pieces are lying flat on the board, but they seam to rise up out of the board in a 3D fashion. That's probably not a good explaination. But it is not done with sophisticated graphics tools at all. Aside from the program made from the odd small source code Chess program that he put on CCC a while back, Siberian is probably the only Russian Chess program that I have. Pete
