Go up one level in this thread

Take for example this thread that we are in. There were 5 replies to the original post about Karpov, etc. There were 4 times that number of replies to Christophe's asking to talk about computer chess. The original thread basically died down to 6 postings. The extended thread on topicality was much larger (which it has been argued that topicality posts are on topic). I would estimate that less than 5% of all new threads are off topic (this includes things such as tournament announcements, ratings announcements, maximum number of possible chess positions, results of current tournaments, etc.). The frequency of taking an on topic thread and making it off topic (jokes, sidelines, etc.) is slightly higher, but even so, maybe about 10% of all posts are off topic and a good portion of these are on chess related topics. I very much doubt that there are that many people interested in diluting the board to the level where it will become unbearable and if that starts to happen, people should notify the moderators and they should step in.
