Seems to me as if they didn't take a closer look at the black king.

ICC ratings are exaggerating. And most of the games are played like this one
with short time controls. It is well known that programs are almost unbeatable
at g/5, even with increment.
And Crafty is known to be the most dangerous opponent, maybe Ferret is a bit
stronger.
