I agree that the style should not matter.
Remember though that differences in culture (which generally mean speaking a
different language) may lead to what you find aggressive. In general this is not
what is intended by the speaker. I am a speaker of Spanish, and an English
teacher, I am confronted every day with words such as LOOK and the most
offensive "Who cares?" which are direct translations from non-offensive Spanish
phrases.

So don't take it personnally.
