I agree (except about the smiley faces :) ). If you are just reading, you have
the option to not read a given post. If you are posting, you have the option of
changing the subject or snipping the material.

I like the smiley faces since I use them to convey a multitude of expressions
such as :) :( and :|. Some people try to be humorous in how they say things, but
realize that a given phrase can be misinterpreted (the written language being
limited to no voice inflection, facial or body language). So, it is important to
use symbols !!, ??, ?! to assist in meaning.

The only problem I really have is when people are typing everything or most
everything in capital letters. This implies shouting which I do not like hearing
in person either. But capitalizing one word implies EMPHASIS to me as opposed to
shouting, so it is ok with me.
