I don't believe Hiarcs depends on hash tables as much as Fritz does; in fact,
this is what has been said by technical support at Chessbase, and technical
support at Gambitsoft.

The inability of the tester to provide equal measures for testing is in my
opinion not very good to get accurate results. I think if people are not made
aware that a match of engine vs engine was not done on an equal basis, then they
can be misled to believe a result based on insufficient evidence. :)
