On German commercial Shredder site http://www.computerchess.de/shredder/news.html you will find the following position: 5n2/B3K3/2p2Np1/4k3/7P/3bN1P1/2Prn1P1/1q6 w - - If you set Shredder's selectivity tab on maximum value, Shredder will indicate mate in 30 within few seconds. My Hiarcs 7.32 and Fritz 5.32 programs, however, are not able to find this solution. Does Shredder have an advantage over Hiarcs or Fritz in this kind of positions? Well, I know that this kind of examples are not the only criterion to evaluate common strength of a chess program, but nevertheless, it is quite interesting. Who can help me with some own experiences with regard to selectivity settings in ChessBase programs? Thank you very much for your help. Regards, Frank
