There were some messages about this here on 23-05-1999, I think you can find them in the archives (m990531.zip, bottom of the page). In it was also a formula you can use in Excel, I believe, that works by approximating the area under the normal distribution function. Useful if you want to make a more exact calculation. If you are interested in the subject maybe you can find prof. Elo's book, The Rating of Chessplayers, past and present, by Arpad E. Elo somewhere. It was published in 1978, ISBN 0-7134-1860-5 by Batsford. Don't know if it is still in print but it is still well worth reading. Regards, Eelco.
