1.  simplest way to make it work is to put crafty/book.bin/books.bin in
the xboard directory.

2.  needing root implies that your book files aren't set with write permissions
which is necessary for book learning...  Get the permissions right and this
isn't needed (actually running as root is dangerous).  If it isn't the
permissions on the files, check the directory where logs go, it must be able
to write those as well...
