To be very specific, in Winboard you can not use those Chess engines that are made to run only in Fritz and Hiarcs interfaces, they are the ones that have the .eng file extentions. So as Jeroen explained, you need to get a download of the engine that is compiled to run on Winboard. But if you are just getting used to useing Winboard you would have a much easier time setting up other strong programs like Phalanx or Comet first. And then try getting back to Crafty in a few weeks. As I recall someone pasted big chunks of his winboard.ini file into a reply in this thread, you might want to copy & paste that into a txt file and keep it for reference for a while, because getting your winboard.ini file set up and working can be a big obsticle at first. You're probably 90% of the way towards making the thing work. Pete
