you are using a version over 1 year old.  6.0 uses the new 2.2 kernels.  And
the installation works well.  I took a group of non-linux users and explained
how/why to partition the disk, turned them loose, and within 30 minutes they had
redhat 6 up, X-windows up, and the network interface up...
