hi , as being neutral and not involved at all I think it was a completely
useless fight.

the most reasonable point was from don dailey IMO :

quote :

"Fernando,

You have this vision of CCC as a nice little cafe to come to tell
jokes, drink wine, talk politics and party all night long. Perhaps,
but only if the urge hits you just right, you can talk about computer
chess. I think this is nice vision, nothing wrong with that. But I
don't think it is a vision that very many people share with you.

Your vision doesn't bother me a bit, but the constant preaching and
indoctrination does. It's a real party stopper. Look around and
see what you get here, most of us are nerds and happy to be. You
preach tolerance in one breath, but in the next refer to us as a
"pathetic science magazine" clearly displaying your predjudice and
disdain against those of us who happen to prefer using the group to
talk about computer chess.

- Don"

there are some obviously offensive parts in this post but in fact i think he is
completely right.

there are two points of view and both seem to be perfectly valid in my opinion :

1. this site is about computerchess and every post should deal with
computerchess and nothing else ( no use debating this ; everyone will agree it
is a legit one )

2. and more complicated ; this site is all about computerchess ; people read it
, post here ; get to know each other ; maybe even get to know each other in real
life and so on

bruce moreland asked : what to do with a post saying : "happy christmas " near
25th december ; well : some people will agree this is perfectly sane : and if
you meet people in a forum you might sometimes just tell them some friendly
things ; i think he is wrong here .

for example : if james robertson who seems to follow the strict forum rules
posts to jason dart : " hey how come you never say friendly things about my prog
and discourage me ? " this is surely off-topic but nobody would even think about
deleting it.

but : in fact I don't think a " happy christmas post " would ever have been
deleted .

i read your joke ; i didn't like it very much and went to bed , not offended at
all .

next time i come here I see all this battle and think about it again ; although
I think a post like " hey I hear you have hard times : i hope you will soon be
better and come to our site and discuss computer chess again " is perfectly ok ,
this one was different .

It was a joke about jewish people and about sexual things ; I am sure you
intended nothing wrong , but bruce probably is right that very probably there
could have been people who would have felt offendend and so he removed it . If
ths would have been discussed before you probably would have agreed but this
wasN#t possible . Also I heard that the joke sounds much better in spanish so it
might be he usual language gap too.

All this talk about "police moderators " etc . isn't thepoint . I think there
are different groups of people here that usually live in peace ; programmers ;
users testing chessprogs , etc. and everyone should do the best to keep it that
way .

It's late here ; I hope very much I have nothing offensive in this one :)

Pete
