In Chessmaster 6000's file "cm.ini", set ttable=20 for 1MB hash, =21 for 2MB, =22 for 4MB, =23 for 8MB, =24 for 16MB, etc. It depends on what your computer can handle. I only have 32MB RAM and find 8MB hash about right. My tests indicate it really doesn't make a big difference, maybe a 5-10% faster search at longer time controls if you use more hash memory. The best settings for CM are a matter of considerable interest and debate. I don't believe anyone has proven their case!? I'm using the following settings which I derived from a variety of intelligent sources which I tend to trust, as well as from my own intuition & experience, which I also tend to trust: Selective Search 10, Contempt for Draw 0.2, Q=9.7, R=5, B=3.3, N=3.2, P=1. I'm happy with how CM performs in doing analysis with these settings, but I have no proof that they are better than any others. Maybe it's partly a matter of style. --JRM
