It easily could have been the case, but it was actually just like my parody
above. The Brazilian IRS, the Receita Federal simply thought she was alive and
was hoarding her tax money. Really. I had spoken a number of times with them
after I continued to receive (well, my great-grandmother actually) warnings and
then threat letters. No matter how many times I was given assurances that it was
all taken care of (I once took the death certificate to one of their offices to
show them) they continued their postal onslaught. It COULD have been foul-play,
but it wasn't. It was simply federal bureaucracy at it's worst.
