While you probably meant DOS/Windows programs, the nicest freeware
graphical board I've seen (nicer than most commercial boards) is this:

This is from the freeware Mac program, Sigma Chess 4.02 lite -
the real thing looks even a touch better - the JPEG compression hurt a bit.
