Here is an experience I made just 2 days ago: For a long time I had heard of a program called "Der Bringer", but thought, well, this is just another Winboard engine with nothing special about it, so I didn't download it - although I'm just as crazy about chessprograms as most of us here, buying and downloading most everything I can get hold of. Then, 2 days ago, a bit bored and not really knowing what to do, I decided to try one or two new chess programs and downloaded "Der Bringer" from Gambit-Soft. And I was stunned. Wow, what a wonderful Windows-GUI, it's very near to perfect and if I was to write a graphical interface for my own program again (I had a dos-based one some years ago), I would dream of writing such a GUI. If I had known about this GUI before, I would have downloaded "Der Bringer" MUCH earlier! So I think yes, the chess interface does influence decisions, of course. Although I do also buy chess programs just for their playing style, MChess beeing a perfect example for that (though I still like the MChess Dos-Gui too). Greetings, Heiko. P.S.: Going to download the new version 1.4 of "Der Bringer" right now, after writing this post ;-)
