I think that it can help in slower games. In quick games this idea may lead to more mistakes In slower games you can let yourself more time to evaluate the difference between the 2 best moves(assuming that you use 0.1% of your regular time to evaluate the difference between the 2 best moves) so you can do less mistakes. You have another reason to assume that you do less mistakesin slower games if you assume that you play forced moves faster but use increasing time for them when the time per move is increasing. Uri
