Hello JRM,
My computers take about 3 or 4 seconds to initialize the TB's.  I have all 3/4
and about 20 of the 5 man tablebases so far.  It seems to me that you are
disabling the TB's with your setup.  If that's what you want, that's fine but
they do have a function in the endgame.
