They're informative to curious people (like me), as long as their scientific value isn't over-rated. Some programs might be more disadvantaged than others by not being able to use "deep thought", but as an approximation of engine strengths engine-engine ganes are useful. They're also helpful to point out which engines screw up in the endgames. An engine that finishes 15-15 in a 30 game engine-engine tournament might finish 17-13 or 13-17 if playing against the same engine on a second PC, but an engine that loses 25-5 on one PC is hardly likely to win if two PCs are used.
