If you have played 20 of the 50 moves that are possible without resetting the counter, and you find a move to reset the counter, should you take it? Overall, perhaps the odds would be in favour of taking it, but there may (read "will") be positions where this procedure only draws, while delaying an opportunity to reset the counter until a later point (e.g. 40 of the 50 moves) would eventually lead to a win. The opposite situation is of course also possible. Frankly, the whole idea is much less practical than simply building DTC tables, because the latter is really what you (read "KarinsDad") are looking for. Dave
