people bashing over their believes is rude. It's considered rude all over the
world. On every virtual market place on the web there are uncivilized cave bears
(females too :-)).
But don't forget that for a lot of people -like me- here English is a second
language. It can be quite difficult to express your opinions in the way that you
would express them in your native tongue. Sometimes you'll translate your
thoughts directly into English, not considering that you might hit on unexpected
sensitivities for others here.
Add that to the fact that for most people writing is more difficult than
talking, and that most writing here isn't prose ready for literature. It isn't
and it shouldn't be, because this is a "near to talk" virual market place. Let's
keep it that way, not setting too high a standard to the prose of posters.
And last but not least we often do not realize the importance of support
language gets from facial expressions. It's the reason why the smileys popped
up. Humour or light sarcasm too often being explained as rudeness.
I agree that the best way to participate is with a thick skin.
Not because we should allow real rude people to take over the place or spoil the
fun. We all know what happens in rgcc from time to time.
It's only because we should realize the limitations of this place compared to
face-to-face conversation.
