Buy a used Newton MessagePad 130/2000/2100 with NOS 2.0 or later and load the program Deep Green for free. Download at http://inet.uni2.dk/home/bondo/newton/deepgreen.html Buy a Palm Pilot (any version, used older models are just as good and cheaper) or a DaVinci handheld and load the program PocketChess ($15 shareware). Download at http://www.eskimo.com/~scottlu/pilot/ The engine in these two programs is the same, but the Newton interface is more stylish and higher resolution. Also, the 160MHz 2x00 Newtons are much faster than the 20MHz Pilot (though bulkier). Current dedicated handheld chess computers either have a tiny peg-board or are calculator style, with no board display at all. Ian
