One other possibility is to play out the opening you are trying to master as far as you are inclined to and then unleash the computer monster. I have done this with chessbase programs by using "watch" mode to get the position I want, and then going to "play" mode to play the computer thereafter (with an appropriate handicap, e.g., time) Cheers, Walter
