Subject: Maximum Legal Moves

Does anyone know what is the maximum number
of legal moves from any chess position? Also,
since the theoretical maximum is likely a
highly superficial position (with 9 queens or
some such), what is the largest number anyone
has observed in a real game (including the
search tree) or in a large database of games?
