Well, it's hardly a revolutionary idea, but it would make the tools a lot easier to use for the end-user. Look at the incredible boon offered by having programs conform to the Winboard interface. Now they can play against each other and all sorts of wonderful things that would have been a pain in the rear before such an advent.
