What I did was make a FEN position file using Winboard (but I think the
proceedure is descibed in crafty.doc), it's much like ept positions:

rnbqkbnr/ppp1pppp/8/8/2pP4/2N5/PP2PPPP/R1BQKBNR w KQkq - 0 1

now I typed that into Phalanx (tedious) and hit Enter, then typed GO to start
the search (& enter).

Admitedly I've only tried this with the one I compiled for Dos, but I'm sure it
works the same. It takes a bit to figure it out, and it doesn't want to display
the position that you worked you butt off to type in FEN style, but it will
display the position after the search.
