I must not have been using a huge hash table because I don't think the disk was thrashing, it was just running half speed. I wasn't able to be at home during the match, so I left instructions about how to start the program, and due to inexperience the person who started the program made a mistake and started it twice. I don't know what would have happened if it had been running only once on the machine. Probably the same thing. Shirov is really really strong, not to belabor the obivous. bruce
