The winner of the FA Cup is never described as the strongest team, but there is much glory in being the FA Cup winner precisely because of the dramatic life-and-death nature of every game. On the other hand, the winners of the League are generally regarded as the strongest team, and for years this was the only team that would then be advanced into next season's international matches as the representative of their country's championship. So the current FIDE World Championship involves a mighty life-and-death struggle, and the winner deserves applause for a great achievement. But I'd still want a top-rated Elo player such as Kasparov on my team if I had a choice - - for any competition. Cheers, Mark
