First of all if you recalculate Khalifman's rating right now it would probably be over 2700 because of his performance in the tournament. Anyway, All of the major players had a chance to play and the ones that passed have no right to complain. Same as Fischer, when he refused to play Karpov in Manila. He didn't play and he lost his title. The World Champion is not necessarily the best player in the world at any given moment and vice versa. The opportunity to win the title was there. The one who comes out on top may not be the best in the world but he will still be the Champion. Jim Walker
