While reading over the material on Hash Tables at http://www.npac.syr.edu/copywrite/pcw/node341.html, I noticed that the suggested hash entry structure should contain the "known bounds" on the score for a given position. I'm a little baffled by this remark... Are the known bounds just a range on either side of alpha, after all the successor positions are searched, or is there some other formula implied?
